Halligarth House - National Trust's £1.2m plan for Unst

Fascinating to meet today with Stephen Copp of the National Trust for Scotland, and hear about their plans (in association with Shetland Amenity Trust and the Unst Partnership) for the extraordinary Halligarth House in Unst. And its associated wood, Britain's most northerly forest.

As I write there's a public consultation meeting happening in Unst. The proposal is for a £1.2 million natural heritage centre - which won't compete with the excellent, already existing Unst Heritage Centre - based on the extraordiinary lives of the Edmonstons and Saxbys who lived there. There will also be a café and the famous wood, in its walled garden, will be open for visitors and picnics.

It's a two-year project at least. You can find out more about it here . NTS would love to hear your views.
